NZIR - McMurdo Ice Runway - iang77 - 01-29-2011 Please add the following airport to the database: Ice Runway McMurdo Station, Antarctica ICAO: NZIR IATA: (none) Elev: 1 ft Lat: 77??51???14???S Long: 166??28???07??? Thank you! Re: NZIR - McMurdo Ice Runway - AS380 Mark Richards - 01-29-2011 Ian I've added it but FYI, if you're doing Operation Deep Freeze flights for ASHA, they actually fly to Williams Field, NZWD. Mark Re: NZIR - McMurdo Ice Runway - iang77 - 01-29-2011 Thanks. From what I've read, Williams Field is snow and cannot handle wheeled aircraft -- only ski-equipped aircraft. I'm planning an ASHA mission with that heavy beast, the C-17, so I think the ice runway will be what we'll need. Is this correct? Further research tells me that the sea Ice Runway is only used until December, so I'd be better off using Pegasus Field. Mind adding that one for me? Sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope to make ASHA Antarctic flights a somewhat regular occurrence, so all three runways will be used eventually. Pegasus Field McMurdo Station, Antarctica ICAO: NZPG IATA: (none) Coordinates: 77??57???48???S, 166??31???28???E Thank you! Re: NZIR - McMurdo Ice Runway - AS380 Mark Richards - 01-29-2011 Ian Williams Field is the principle one from New Zealand with Ice and Pegasus used generally used for local flights and as alternates. I've added NZPG as well. From a recent event on VATSIM, VATNZ advised the following: Quote:Recommended Scenery Hope that helps. Re: NZIR - McMurdo Ice Runway - JSkorna - 01-30-2011 Hi All, Lets also be careful that it appears in FS without then need for downloading scenery. I am flying in FSX right now so I can't check the default FS's. Re: NZIR - McMurdo Ice Runway - iang77 - 01-30-2011 Jim, The runways are there in FS9, but are located over the water, so they don't function correctly. As far as downloading add-on scenery goes, I've made it clear in my schedule that the default runway doesn't work, and that IF they're interested in the flight, they'll need the add-on scenery. Re: NZIR - McMurdo Ice Runway - JSkorna - 01-30-2011 OK, nice!! |
