Where are you going? Breaking the code... - Buckeye Roy - 06-16-2012 Ever wonder how and where those 3-letter airport codes came from? This article should give you some insight. Airport Codes Re: Where are you going? Breaking the code... - AS37 Norm Edwards - 06-16-2012 Great find Roy. All is revealed... almost. Wonder how they came up with FOOL for Libreville tho! Re: Where are you going? Breaking the code... - mynetdude - 06-27-2012 AS37 Norm Edwards Wrote:Great find Roy. All is revealed... almost. Wonder how they came up with FOOL for Libreville tho! It is true, some codes have no relevance to the airport itself haven't read the article but I hope it addresses why some airport codes have X at the end (KPDX and KLAX) if I had coded those two I would have said Portland, OR for KPTD (although this code does exist and I'm sure so does KPRD) as for Los Angeles well could been LAS but that's Las Vegas but see again, KLAS is purely the first 3 letters of the city name why not be KLVG? I'm sure KLVG exists too. So I'm definitely looking forward to some reading while in vFlight (doing CYYC-KEWR here shortly). |
