Watch this excellent video.

Bangs and flames are caused by the compressor stall (compressor surge).
Read more about compressor surge.

Notice the communication between the aircraft and ground
during the whole event
and no use of slides after ensuring that there is no danger of fire.

Maybe some AS member could add a competent comment...

This happened at my local and the pilots handled it in a calm manner as it says in the description compressor stalls can lead to rejected take offs because of the loud bangs , it seems ok once the bird and bits of the engine get blown out the back .

Good all round job handled in a calm manner .
