Title: My new build
Threaded Mode
#1
Case = Cosair Obsidian Full tower
PSU = Ultra x4 modular 1050w(overkill but great price)
Mobo = Gigabyte GA X58-UD7
Ram = Cosair Dominator 6GB tri Chanel 1600mhz
GPU = GTX 260 Superclocked (from my old case, works great and had to cut costs somewhere)
CPU = I7 980X Extreme 3.33ghz
Harddrive = 300 gb VelociRaptor // 500 gb seagate for the OS
Few other things like an DVD Drive, CoolMaster HyperN520 for cooling

I have to wait til April 12 before it arrives, I know the benchmarks for the 980X are not really better for games. My original plan was to get an 975 but upon release of the 980X they increased the price of the 975 by $150. Now the reason I went with the extreme series is because I did not want to spend the money for a new build and buy something like an 920, (which is probably one of the best OC chips out there, don't get me wrong), and get a dud that will not OC, and yes you can get chips that simply not OC. I have tried to get my q6600 @ 2.40 up to around 3.00ghz and it simply will not happen, the most I can get is 2.69 and not 1 ghz more. I'm not an expert at OC but I'm not green either. And after I took it to my cousin who is pretty much a geek god at OC and he could not do anything with it......well I decided If I do get another chip that won't OC at least I will be stuck at 3.33 ghz Big Grin which is fine for me. Im sure this new build will make a significant improvement for my FSX experience. Im not a "I want all the sliders to the right kinda guy" Big Grin I will be happy with a more consistent smoothness. Oh boy April 12 is so far away Big Grin

My HP e9230f 2.66GHz Q8400 Quad Core 8GB RAM (500MHz I think) with Windows 7 (x64) handles FS9 and FSX fairly smoothly. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the hours in the day.

You should have no issues with sliders to the right.

You should have no problems with moving the sliders to the right. That Corsair Obsidian is one nice case. Great features and lots of room for expansion and ventilation. I looked at the Corsair case, when I built my new system, but went with the Cooler Master HAF 932 with which I have had no complaints. I know you'll enjoy your new system, just as much as I do mine. I actually feel a little guilty when I'm getting 100+ FPS and I will turn the sliders down a little -- and I don't even have it over-clocked! Sure glad I upgraded to a quad-core.

Case - Cooler Master HAF 932 (Love the 230mm fans - HAF = High Air Flow)
MBO - ASUS P7P55D Deluxe
CPU - Intel i7 860 Quad Core
Heatsink - Cooler Master Intel Core i7 compatible V8 CPU Cooler
Memory - 8GB DDR3 Dual Channel (CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) SDRAM DDR3 1600)
Video Card - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5850
1 - WD VelociRaptor 300GB Hard Drive (FSX Only)
1 - Western Digital Caviar Black - 1TB, 7200 RPM, 32MB, SATA-300 (OS and Programs)
1 -Western Digital My Book Essential External Hard Drive - 1TB (Downloads and Backup Files)
2 - Plextor 24x DVD/CD Writer Drives w/Lite Scribe
2 - Samsung 22" Monitors (Technically one is a 21.5")

I also have two 34GB WD Raptor Drives which I took out of my old system and using as slave external drives for backup files when needed.

Have Fun!

In my dreams, I am green with envy at you guys.
My graphics card died on me. I hope to order one on pay day. My rig is old now, but it handled FS9 well with lots of scenery add-ons like EGLL Extreme and complex a/c.
Problem is, the system is off the shelf, a dual core running at 2.8 but they cut corners on the mobo to make it cheaper to buy, so I am stuck with AGP in a PCI slot. Had a GeForce 7600GS which was fine, lookint to try a Raedeon I found online. We'll see.
When I get the cash I'll build my own. Done it before. In fact my old 1.7 system worked better because it was bulit for FS. Ah, the economy sucks, I need a raise! :roll:

Hey Roy your system looks great, Im going to be using my Raptor for just FSX aswell, never had one before. I looked into SSD drives but they were way to much $$$, there was an OCZ 300gb and it was over $1000 maby down the road when the price comes way down I might put FSX on an SSD and have my OS on the raptor. Anyone here use an SSD. I have never had a full tower case before either. Im sure I will be surprised how big it is when it gets here. Anyways those guys at tigerdirect shipped me everything except the processor, it been put on backorder, so I'm going to have to wait out a bit longer then what I first anticipated.
