I have less than v$2,000 can I still fly GA or do I need to earn more v$ first?

You can fly GA until you have a negative balance.

Actually the system does look to make sure you can cover I believe 3 hours in available funds (without checking the code). So yes, you would need to fly more to make more v$, or choose an aircraft that is "free" such as training aircraft.

If you go to this link and choose "view training aircraft only" from the pulldown box, the system shows which aircraft are "free" rental, and where they are currently located. Keep in mind you must depart from where the aircraft are located.
